Advice for College Freshman

Stay Positive! There will be a lot of freshman nervous about meeting new people, trying new things, and missing home. By being a positive and enthusiastic presence, people will naturally gravitate towards you and feel comfortable around you.

You got this! The same resiliency that got you to this point will also help you in your college transition. Have confidence in the fact that you've done many things that others outside of the military world haven't experienced.

Don't forget to take care of you! You're going to be incredibly busy and it'll be very easy to ignore your health. Working out, taking a walk outside, yoga, or other stress relief will do wonders for you. It's important to recharge.

Expect things to change! The reality is, you're not in high school anymore. Many boyfriend/girlfriend situations change because you're changing. Sometimes, letting go of the past is the best thing as far as growing as a person. Even some of the people you knew very closely in high school will seem like different people once you get to college.

Try something new...something you've never done before! Audition for a play, try out for improv, join a club, or go on an outdoor adventure. College is supposed to be exciting and fun. Do new things to make it so!

Don't over extend yourself! There are only so many hours in the day. Realize that you can't do it all.

Stay grounded with your family! Especially when things get stressful, know that you've got your family to lean on.

Build relationships with your professors! This will help with your studies, future letters of recommendations, mentorship, and overall advice.

Pray!
