Passion Planning

One big lesson that I learned this past month was in prioritization. I just started my junior year and the first semester of the nursing program at George Mason University. Initially I tried to go into this semester with the same amount of extracurricular commitments that I had been balancing last year, but it didn't take long for me to realize that I wasn't going to be able to maintain the same activities this year on top of nursing school. I had to step back and take a look at all of my commitments, prioritize what mattered the most to me, and ultimately cut one activity from my life. Although it was difficult, I know it was the right call.

Along those same lines, another lesson that I learned was that I have to prioritize and make time for myself amidst my busy schedule in order to stay happy and healthy. Exercise is a huge stress reliever for me, so I made sure to schedule in field hockey and gym time throughout the week. Also, at least one day a week I make sure to take time to just hang out with friends. I've learned that there is always work that I can be doing, but if I don't take time to relax I will burn myself out.

The final lesson that I learned this past month is that cooking is time consuming! This is the first year that I've lived in an apartment with my own kitchen, so I'm cooking my own meals every day. I enjoy cooking and I can make some pretty tasty meals when I have the time, but I rarely do. I've learned that meal prep and leftovers are the way to go when I'm busy during the week. My challenge to myself in October is to finally try out my crockpot!
